About

Bathe with your ink.

A register of what Japanese inns publish about tattoos — 631 inns. We searched each inn's official site and record it when nothing is published.

Who runs it

Tattoo Onsen Japan is a small, independent editorial project, run by Tattoo Onsen Japan editors.

It exists because the answer to “can I bathe with a tattoo?” is usually somewhere on the inn's own website — in Japanese, in a FAQ or the house rules — and travellers rarely find it before they book. We go and get that sentence, and show it to you with the source and the date.

Corrections policy

Inns change their rules. We re-check the inns in this register and date every check.

We re-read the source before changing anything. A status changes only when the inn's own published words (or the inn's reply to us) say so — never on a review or a single anecdote.

Changes are dated. Each inn page shows when it was checked and notes when the wording has changed since an earlier check.

Money and independence

Booking buttons go through our own short link (/go/…) to Agoda, Trip.com or Booking.com. Some of those links go through Travelpayouts, an affiliate network, and may earn us a commission; we add no fee to your booking. A commission never changes a status, and an inn cannot pay to be listed as tattoo-friendly. Details: affiliate disclosure and privacy.

Prices and availability are set by each booking site. Staff on the day have the last word on bathing; we show what the inn publishes. See how we verify.
