Where we looked.

One dot for each of the 631 inns in our register, coloured by its tattoo status.

Statuses come from the inn's official site where a rule is published; the few exceptions (prefecture database, group-wide policy, no official site) are labelled on each inn's page. Pick a status to light up its dots; tap a prefecture to zoom in and list every inn there. The same numbers, by prefecture, are in the table below (23 prefectures).

How to read this map

One dot = one inn. Colour and symbol = tattoo status (see the buttons). Inns in the same onsen town are spread into a small cluster so every dot shows; zoom in for each inn's mapped spot (4 of 631 are approximate). Tap or click a prefecture to zoom in — each inn becomes a badge with a symbol, pushed apart so none overlap (on phones, a busy onsen town shows as one numbered bubble: tap it to open). Hatched = no inns, not in our register yet. Okinawa is inset lower right. Outline simplified from dataofjapan/land.
